Inspired by Japan

Diane has always been fascinated with Japan ever since being given a small Japanese doll at the age of 4 and this has turned into a life long love of the Japanese arts and aesthetic. These paintings are on the theme of Sashiko, a centuries old traditional form of decorative Japanese stitching which was at first, purely for mending and strengthening patched old clothes but in time it has become a revered form of art and craft. Diane sees Sashiko as a metaphor for healing, restoring and uniting in the works shown here. These works will be shown in an exhibition with a potter and textile artist at Cook Street Collective in Flinders, on the Mornington Peninsula from March 7-29th.
